Co-Hosted by Katie Godowski , we’ll be hunting for Cherry Blossoms all the way down to Battery Park. You read that right, we’ll be walking almost the entire length of Manhattan (we’re planning a future actual full length walk soon!). Make sure you bring water, and snacks for the walk. We will be taking various breaks along the way, and of course you’re welcome to leave at any point. Let’s have fun and keep safe.

We’ll then cross back and perhaps walk a little more until our feet tell us to stop!

We will be meeting in Chinatown where we will walk for a bit until we go into the 2nd Ave station to catch the Holiday Train, a yearly tradition by the MTA. Once inside we’ll have some time to get some photos of the train outside of it, then ride it up to 96th street. Once there we’ll step outside in the Upper East Side and walk to Central park. Bring warm clothes and your warm smiles!

Join us at Word Up for a street photography workshop with Emmanuel Abreu! Learn how to take photos in the community, level up your skills, and ask questions in real-time.

As part of Word Up’s second Saturday Skill Share series we’ll be hosting a street photography workshop led by @eabreuvisuals. We’ll enjoy a photowalk after the workshop Uptown. Come prepared with any photograpy questions. All cameras, including smartphones, are welcomed!

Emmanuel Abreu is a New York City based photographer and videographer who has been collaborating with the community of Washington Heights/Inwood since the start of his career. His work has been featured in The New York Times, The Manhattan Times, HuffPost and Gothamist.  He is a co-founder of Word Up Community Bookshop  in NYC where he, along with a committed collective of volunteers, facilitates the availability of literature, art and a community centered space with and for the neighborhood and beyond. He is also the founder of Uptown Photowalk , a monthly community photography meetup that has hosted events for 10  years and counting. As an activist he aims to use his various skill sets to further pursue a more just world, even if he won't be around to see it.

The sunrise from this area is great and the morning is the best time to capture these beauties. As it is forecast to thunderstorm on Saturday, it seemed best to get these before then. Ferry Point Park

Join us for a fun walk from Yorkville to Ferry Point Park in the Bronx. We’ll be meeting in front of Carl Schurz Park and we’ll take a short stroll around the park, enjoying its beautiful views over the east river until we move onto the ferry on 90th street.

You will need to purchase tickets before hoping on the ferry either via the NYC Ferry app or via the vending machines at the dock. We will be leaving on the 4:59pm departing ferry, so if you’re late for any reason meeting us, please make sure you’re there BEFORE the ferry leaves. https://www.ferry.nyc/ticketing-info/ (single ride tickets are $4.50).

We’ll enjoy some spectacular views of NYC as we pull away from Manhattan, go under a few bridges and arrive at Ferry Point Park. We’ll hang out at the park for a while, and take the ferry back to the city at your leisure. You have the option of a ferry leaving at 6:28pm, or if you want to stay to enjoy the sunset and night views, the last 2 ferries are at 7:31pm and 8:34pm.

Vengan a una caminata desde Yorkville hasta Ferry Point Park en el Bronx. Nos encontraremos frente al parque Carl Schurz y caminaremos por el parque, disfrutando de sus hermosas vistas sobre el rio este hasta que nos vamos al ferry de la calle 90.

Tendrás que comprar los boletos antes de llegar al ferry, a través de la aplicación NYC Ferry o a través de las máquinas en el muelle. We’re walking from Washington Heights to the South Bronx to Mill Pond Park. Once we get to the park we’ll be able to check out the awesome 18 ft tall sculpture of Eric Orr’s Rappin’ Max Robot by Welder Underground which is up by the Hip Hop museum for a limited time!

We are revisiting our walk from this January, and we’re going back to Queens! Hopefully this time it won’t be as rainy, cold, and windy. We’ll walk around the Gantry Plaza State Park area, then cross Queensbridge and make our way to Central Park south.
